With the fine weather over the weekend we had plenty of activity with a leisurely 55 mile group ride on Saturday for breakfast at the Gilberry Fayre led by Conrad and then on Sunday the Captain Jim Watson led a large group for a slightly speedier run in the sun taking in Lough Neagh for a stop in Crumlin.
The Cyclo-cross juggernaut kept on rolling with a sizable entry from VC Glendale travelling to Westport for the 3rd round of the National Series. Jake McKee got the weekend started with 8th in the U12 Boys followed by Aoife Craig who made the podium with a 3rd in the U14 Girls. Caleb McGreevy and James Armstrong continued their rivalry with Caleeb 2nd and James 4th in the U16 Boys.
A weekends racing wouldn’t be complete without a podium for Aine Doherty and she delivered with 3rd in the junior ladies and also well done to Darcey Harkness on a fine 6th overall in the senior ladies. Moving on to the senior men and it was great to see Gerard Craig back racing in the M40’s and Davy McKee and Neil Armstrong battling it out in the M50’s finishing seconds apart.
Over the past few years the Glendale Academy has produced a constant stream of talented riders and it was great to see two former members battling it out to win the senior men’s race, with national champion Dean Harvey leading National U23 road champion Jamie Meehan to a 1st and 2nd.
So back home with the darker nights drawing in we’d like to remind members that there are still plenty of activities to join in with Cyclo-cross training on a Tues and Thurs night and MTB social runs on a Thur nights. As usual there will be Sat and Sun group road spins as well all through the winter. It is a great opportunity at this time of the year for members who haven’t been out for a while to start a comeback as the pace of the group rides have slowed and there is a definite emphasis on the social side of things…so don’t be a stranger
