Last weekend seen a chilly start to Saturday and we had a road group leave Dunmurry well wrapped up for a leisurely spin to Carrickfergus and again the Sunday group felt the chill on a spin to Oxford Island where the temperature on the road was one degree!………However the main action was down in Clonmel for the UCI Cyclo-cross race promoted by Verge Sports. The two day event was a brilliant showcase for Irish Cyclo-cross including elite riders from the overseas. The weekend started for us with our youngest Academy rider, Jake McKee riding strongly in the U12 boys race for a 7th place, later on we had James Armstrong and Caleb McCreevy rounding off the Podium in the U16 boys for a brilliant 2nd and 3rd. On the Sunday we had the stand out performance of the weekend with Aine Doherty taking runner up in the senior ladies race just behind UK professional Anna Kay – yet again an amazing day out for Aine. The ladies race had a very competitive field and Darcey Harkness also had a great result finishing 5th and Aoibhinn Sharkey first year junior finishing the main event also. Lastly it was time for the sprightly looking Neill Armstrong to compete in the M50’s and he rounded off the weekend for the club coming in 10th….well done everybody!
